Canal Clean Up

Help Keep Our Waterways Beautiful

Join us for the Hackney Wick Canal Clean Up – a free monthly community event bringing together local residents, businesses, paddlers and canal lovers to help care for one of East London's most unique waterways.

Working alongside the team from Moo Canoes, volunteers will head out onto the canal to collect litter, remove floating debris and help make a positive difference to the local environment.

As a thank you for taking part, every volunteer will receive a free pint at Barge East after the clean-up.

Whether you're passionate about the environment, looking to meet like-minded people, or simply want to give something back to your local community, we'd love to have you join us.

FAQs

  • Most canoes hold 2–3 people comfortably, making them perfect for sharing the experience rather than going solo.

  • They’re ideal. Multiple canoes can head out together, making it a great shared experience while still giving each group their own space.

  • Canoes are more open, spacious, and social - you typically paddle together and face forward. If you’re after something relaxed and shared, canoeing is the way to go.

  • Light rain won’t stop play - it’s all part of the adventure. We recommend bringing appropriate clothing.

If conditions are unsafe (e.g. high winds or extreme weather), we’ll contact you to reschedule.
